Before and after examples
Example images are AI-generated: both the sample houses and their redesigns. Results change from render to render, so treat them as concepts, not exact product matches.

Before
AfterWhat the AI can and cannot do
It can recolor the siding in your photo while usually keeping the shape of the house, so you can compare colors before you order samples.
It cannot show a real ExpertFinish color, check which color is stocked near you or follow every instruction exactly. In our examples the model drew its own version of each color. Check the whole image and name what must stay the same.
AiExterior is not affiliated with LP Building Solutions; brand names only describe the products.
How to choose an LP SmartSide color
The points below come from LP's own color pages (the maker), Amerhart (a distributor) and Woodworking Network (a trade site). The maker and the distributor sell the product. Sources were read on 24 October 2026. Some of them sell siding or lead homeowners to local pros, so treat the color advice as sales-adjacent.
| Question | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| What is it? | Engineered wood made from strands, resin, wax and zinc borate; not solid wood and not fiber cement (Amerhart). |

| Core palette | 16 colors: Snowscape White, Sand Dunes, Desert Stone, Quarry Gray, Prairie Clay, Terra Brown, Harvest Honey, Timberland Suede, Garden Sage, Redwood Red, Tundra Gray, Summit Blue, Rapids Blue, Cavern Steel, Midnight Shadow and Abyss Black (LP). |
| Naturals Collection | Adds six more: Washed White, Smoky Slate, Saffron Cedar, Weathered Walnut, Aged Amber and Bonsai Black (LP, Woodworking Network). |
| Products and textures | Lap, nickel gap, trim and fascia, shake lap, panel and vertical, and soffit, in cedar grain or brushed smooth (LP). |
| Color of the year | LP lists Sand Dunes as its 2026 color of the year. |
Three LP SmartSide-style colors to try
- Muted garden sage green. Example 1 turns cream siding sage and leaves the orange door alone.
- Warm sandy stone with black trim. Example 2 turns white siding golden sand with black fascia and trim, on a flat-roofed home.
- Deep slate blue-gray. Example 3 turns tan siding deep slate blue and keeps the brown roof, wood door and white trim.
How to try a siding color on your house
The examples were run directly on an image model, not through the tool above, so your results will look different.
- Photograph the front in daylight, straight on, with the whole house in the frame.
- Upload it in the tool at the top of this page, or open the exterior designer, and choose a style.
- Name the color and what must stay the same, like the prompts below.
- Compare two or three colors and note which parts moved.
The exact prompts behind the examples
These are the edit prompts used for the three examples, word for word. Swap in the color and the list of what stays.
Prompt 1: muted garden sage green
Change ONLY the color of the lap siding: repaint it a muted garden sage green. Keep the white trim, the gray roof, the wood front door, the driveway and the lawn exactly the same, and keep the camera angle.
Prompt 2: warm sandy stone beige with black trim
Change ONLY the color of the lap siding: repaint it a warm sandy stone beige and make the trim black. Keep the flat roof, the gray front door, the windows, the driveway and the lawn exactly the same, and keep the camera angle.
Prompt 3: deep slate blue-gray
Change ONLY the color of the lap siding: repaint it a deep slate blue-gray. Keep the white trim, the brown roof, the wood front door, the driveway and the lawn exactly the same, and keep the camera angle.

Frequently asked questions
Is LP SmartSide wood or fiber cement?
Neither exactly. Amerhart describes it as engineered wood made of strands, resin, wax and zinc borate.
Primed or ExpertFinish: which is better?
They suit different jobs. ExpertFinish is factory prefinished. Primed boards are painted on site in any color, per LP. We do not rate them; ask your installer about upkeep.
What are the LP SmartSide ExpertFinish color names?
LP lists 16 core colors, from Snowscape White to Abyss Black, plus six Naturals Collection colors. Check LP for the current list.
What trim goes with Quarry Gray?
LP suggests black, off-white or dark gray trim with gray siding and advises against beige trim. See the exact pairings on LP's pages.
Can I see a LP SmartSide color on my own house first?
Yes. Upload a photo of your house in the tool at the top of this page and name the color to try. A render is a guide only; test real samples outdoors on all sides of the house.
Will the render match a real LP SmartSide color?
No, not exactly. In our examples the model drew its own idea of each color. Use the render to narrow your choices, then compare real color samples.
Is this tool free?
Signing up is free and gives you 5 credits, which is enough for 2 renders in most countries. Free renders carry an AiExterior watermark. If you want more renders or clean images, paid plans are available on the pricing page.
Do I need an account?
Yes. You need to sign in before a render starts, with an email code or your Google account.
